Charleston Named a Gig Town

Charleston named Gig Town following completion of fiber network

Charleston was named a Gig Town during the Community Breakfast on Nov. 7, recognized by Fidium, the new fiber internet service from Consolidated Communications. Residents and small businesses in the city now have access to multi-gig speed fiber internet from Fidium, kicking off a future filled with numerous economic, educational, employment and entertainment benefits.
Fiber internet has been shown to increase real estate values, attract new businesses, foster entrepreneurship, create more and better job opportunities, and improve health outcomes due to better access to telehealth services.

“We’ve seen the difference a fiber network makes in rural communities,” said Brett Bennet, senior director of Consumer Product for Consolidated Communications. “We’ve all also seen the setbacks a community and its residents can experience due to the lack of a quality broadband infrastructure in their town. We are excited for all of you to experience Fidium.”
